The more we learn and study animals the more we want to know. Science and animal medicine have come a long way, especially in the 21st century. As more and more people change their views of animal intelligence and the way companion animals fit into our families, more studies and experiments are being done in the field of animal behavior, particularly the behavior of cats and dogs.
In 2004 when we had to take 3 out of 5 of our cats to the specialty hospital and the vet school to remove growths that formed on their throats, I had a free cd from Purina. I can’t remember if it was in the kitten chow bag or the cat chow bag, but it was supposedly designed specifically for cats. I played it in the car to soothe the cats as we drove the 2 hours to the hospital. Honestly, I don’t know if it made much of a difference, but I was willing to listen to what sounded like new age music all the way to Raleigh if it helped in the least. I made it a practice to play the cd whenever one of the cats had to take a car ride.
Now you can buy apps for the TV to relax your cat or dog while they are separated from you while you are at work. There are specially designed videos to entertain them and keep them engaged. I started this article researching music for pets. What I found was an incredible amount of content with some claiming classical music is the best to relax cats and some videos that have sounds that only your cat can hear. I hit play on the link for cats and Mama Elijah’s ears perked up and Buddy came out of the bedroom looking around and smelling for I know not what. I couldn't hear a thing. There are videos that claim to play sounds to annoy or aggravate your cat. Why anyone would want to intentionally stress their cat out is beyond me, but there are people who doing graduate studies in cat and dog behavior that would have been laughed at and unthinkable in the scientific community only a few years ago.
Below are some of the links I found including the one with sound only cats can hear.
