I have two cats right now; one is a chewer, and the other is more like a feline vacuum cleaner. Convention says that chewing on hard food will help slow down the buildup of tooth decay. Purina Pro Plan, Hill’s science and Royal Canin all make a dental health specific prescription formula. Even if you have a cat who doesn't chew his food, he might start with one of these formulas. The pieces are bigger to encourage chewing. You can’t count on food to do all the work for you.

I have some great chew toys that are designed to help remove plaque buildup. The best part about these toys is that they are washable and re-fillable.

had a kitten who loved to play fetch with his. These soft toys are really great for teethers too!
